Wines from Meursault are typified by aromas and flavors of ripe melon, hazelnut, and lemon custard, and tend to be broader and more textural than wines from neighboring villages. Aging in 30-35% percent small French oak barrels lends notes of toast and vanilla. White Burgundy, with its richness, texture, and toasted flavors pairs well with light fish and shellfish and can counterbalance cream-based sauces. Oak-aged Chardonnay from warmer climates lends itself well to grilled fish, starches, butter, and toasted nuts.

The 2021 Meursault Les Charmes 1er Cru has an expressive bouquet with crushed stone, pressed yellow flower and light slate-like aromas. Fine delineation. The palate is well balanced with fine tannins, harmonious and orange rind and peach skin, assiduously spiced towards the finish that feels long and tender. This is another impressive Meursault from Monnot.

Viscous and smooth, with peach, citronella, orange peel, butter and baking spice flavors backed by a vibrant structure. Though complex, this is still pretty tight, with a mineral element emerging on the finish. Best from 2025 through 2033. 236 cases made, 25 cases imported.
