Dark violet to the eye, this wine has black currant, clove and dark chocolate aromas. It lights up the palate with black cherry, Mission fig, milk chocolate, anisette, coffee bean and orange zest flavors. Bold acidity and powerful tannins are well matched. Drink this wine through 2039.

The 2019 Finca El Grajo Viejo Protos Seleccion is a 100% Tempranillo from old vines in Anguix and Roa, Ribera del Duero, aged 18 months in oak barrels. Garnet-red in hue. Mint, menthol, bay leaf and licorice aromas appear against an oaky backdrop. The palate is dry and taut with a chalky texture, reactive tannins and mild acidity, resulting in a structured, moderately concentrated mouthfeel. The 2019 is a young wine that needs additional bottle time to develop fully, but the quality is there.
