In the Fiasco vineyard the Tortonian and Helvetian soils cross each other combining a great finesse and power. Classy and classic expression of Nebbiolo which requires time to develop all its complexity is Bric dël Fiasc®. The texture characterizes this Barolo: earthy imprint, density of fruit, vibrant and refined tannins. The acidity supports the important structure of this Barolo and lifts the nose which is complex, mineral, balsamic. Little red fruits and licorice are typical notes in Bric dël Fiasc®.

Forest floor, camphor, pipe tobacco and crushed mint aromas come together in the glass along with a whiff of violet. Combining power and finesse, the full-bodied palate features cherry marinated in spirits, licorice and mocha. Velvety tannins provide support while fresh acidity keeps it bright. Drink 2026-2033.

The 2018 Barolo Bric del Fiasc, usually the most potent wine in the range, comes across as light, diluted and lacking in freshness. The challenges of the vintage were apparently impossible to overcome. I can't say I am entirely surprised though, as many wines from this sector of Castiglione Fallettto are on the lighter side in 2018. Dried out fruit intermingled with hints of cedar and spice give the impression of a Barolo that is on a relatively fast aging curve.
