"Maclura" is a type of Osage Orange tree (also known by the name Hedge Apple). There are many of these trees on the Chateau grounds, inspiring the name of this cuvée. Intense aromas of cassis, blackberry, and spice, with soft, ripe, tannins on the palate and a lingering finish. Enjoy this versatile, food-friendly wine on its own, with red meats (grilled, roasted, charcuterie), or with hearty vegetarian fare.

Starting with the Château Pégau releases, this estate is located south of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, along the Rhône river and is a continuous estate of pebbly, clay and sandy soils. They release a Côtes du Rhône and a Côtes du Rhône Villages, and are in the process of renovating the cellars. The 2016 Côtes du Rhône Maclura is still aging in tank and offers a classic southern Rhône style in its lavender, exotic herbs, pepper, and sweet dark fruits. It has some Pégau charm and is going to be ideal for drinking over the coming 2-4 years.

A pleasant whiff of barnyard lends savory tones of earth and animal to crisp blackberry and plum flavors. It's an opulent, slightly warming wine with a plummy, voluminous mouthfeel that's vibrantly balanced by fresh acidity. The finish is moderately long, lingering on hints of sun-dried thyme, lavender and grippy tannins. Enjoy now-2025.

Distinctive, with frankly ripe plum and blackberry notes that are given a hefty dose of singed alder and bay leaf throughout. Offers a dark, smoldering finish. Has character, but might be a bit heady for some. Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault. Drink now through 2020.
