The 2016 Collina Dalla Valle is a blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39%Cabernet Franc, and 9% Petit Verdot with 24.5% of the fruit coming from Oakville Ranch. This wine is a bold expression of this classic vintage. The first impression is of the wine’s red-black color, impressive density, and outright opacity. From the glass, it is incredibly effusive, with notes of frankincense, baked blackberries, gunsmoke, and thyme. This complex mélange carries through to the palate, as rich black fruit flavors take hold, along with exotic hints of black licorice and sandalwood. The texture is highly polished, but with a tightly knit structure that holds it all together. This combination of aromatic intensity, well-toned muscle, expansive flavor palate, and silky texture, together with take the wine to a high level of hedonistic enjoyment.

The 2020 Collina is solid and unquestionably worth your time and money. Based on 50% Cabernet Franc, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Petit Verdot, it has solid cassis and darker currant-like fruits as well as some earthy, smoky, and chocolaty nuances. Medium to full-bodied, it offers solid tannins, good balance, and a great finish.

The 2020 Collina Dalla Valle is soft, fruity and very easy to like. Bright red-toned fruit, spice, cedar, mint and tobacco are front and center. This Cabernet Franc-based red offers quite a bit of allure. I would prefer to drink it over the next few years. It's a fine effort, especially for the vintage.
