Bodegas Asenjo & Manso AM3 2016
Asenjo & Manso is straight up the real thing. They sit in the best zone of Ribera (la Horra)… they don’t overoak their wines… they show rusticity while still being beautifully elegant… and the Ansenjo family are downright world-class people. Jesus Asenjo is the Mayor of La Horra(!) and he has farmed the fields his grandfather planted 110 years ago. Everyone loves him.. and his eyes show his sincerity in what they do. Natalia is the winemaker, and she has the same passion and drive as Jesus has, to make the most typical Ribera possible with their incredibly deep and intense fruit. She makes the Joven AM3 as the purest expression of Tempranillo from their area. No oak aging, fresh and lively, but complex with earth and spice from the hot zone they are perched within. So much depth from a wine that is so young and crushable with food or even a slight chill on it.This wine is red fruit, liquorice, round tannins and well balanced.
