Stark-Conde Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
2013 was an excellent Cabernet vintage producing wines with bright red fruits and excellent acidity and with a very nice balance between power and elegance. The wines have remained tight despite nearly 2 years in barrel and it will be a vintage with good aging potential. Continuing a trend of the past couple of years, we are using all the Bordeaux blending varieties in this wine with a relatively high proportion of Petit Verdot which work's well in the area and adds an intriguing perfumed note.
Wine AdvocateThe 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon has an airy, cedar and graphite-infused bouquet that is one of the most Médoc-like that you will find in Stellenbosch. The palate is medium-bodied with quite rounded tannin. There is fine depth of fruit here, quite classic in style in terms of its tobacco and cedar flavor profile, though texturally more South African thanks to its roundness on the finish. Drink over the next 5-7 years, possibly more.
Wine SpectatorFeatures a whiff of black tea out front, followed by lightly steeped black currant and boysenberry fruit. Lovely tobacco, charcoal and licorice notes underscore the finish. Shows range and length. Solid. Drink now through 2017.
