Aged 60 years, this symbolic vineyard, which has largely contributed to the reputation of the appellation, is one of the two founding plots of the estate. Planted on scree of marl from Saint-Romain, the vines take root in the limestone and thus give a beautiful minerality to the wine. The attack is frank with notes of candied lemon then, this dense wine, fatter than the others, with complex aromas and multiple horizons, opens with a beautiful saline and iodized vibration. The divine alliance of a mineral world and an explosive fruitiness.

The 2022 Saint-Romain Sous Le Velle is comparatively more backward on the nose, a little chalky in style with light Golden Delicious and orange pith scents. There is fine delineation with neatly integrated oak. The palate is well- balanced, with a tang of orange zest on the entry. This has a silver beard of acidity, lending real tension and matching the impressive depth towards the vibrant finish. Sous Le Velle is often one of the go-to vineyards in Saint-Romain, and this proves exactly why.
