Avignonesi goes “Terracotta" on a new Organic Rosso At Avignonesi, striving for excellence goes hand in hand with experimenting with 100% Tuscan wine-making processes. The intention is to allow the habitat to prevail over foreign influences. For this particular wine, Avignonesi has put aside steel and oak in favour of Tuscan clay. Chinese for “earth, soil”, the name Da-Di was chosen to underline this particularity.

A lovely bouquet of lavender, violets and crushed blackberries rises from the 2021 Sangiovese Da-Di. This washes across the palate with an intense wave of fleshy ripe fruits, all balanced by a salty flourish of minerality and tantalizing acidity. The 2021 finishes with grippy concentration yet remains fresh, with blue- and purple-toned inner florals that linger. The Da-di is a varietal Sangiovese that's refined in amphora, where about one-third of the grapes are left in whole clusters through fermentation. This is an incredibly fun wine to taste.
