The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Podernovi takes everything to another level, as it dials up the intensity with sweet exotic spices giving way to crushed rocks, sour cherry, blood orange and hints of animal musk. It's far more lifted than anticipated, yet still darkly alluring and full of character, as red currants are contrasted by a twang of sour citrus under rosy inner florals. This tapers o! remarkably fresh and spicy, leaving the mouth watering through the long and lightly structured finale.
