|Region||South Africa, Stellenbosch|
James SucklingA spicy and delicious nose of black peppers, charcuterie, ivy, holly and lots of creme de cassis. Full body, ripe and juicy tannins and a long, chewy finish. Loads of fruit and character, but still restrained and refined. Drink in 2021. A blend of 52% syrah and 37% cabernet sauvignon and 11% petit verdot.
DecanterAnwilka is 7km from the coast in the Helderberg region of Stellenbosch and is now merged with Klein Constantia. Impeccable quality is still the objective. 52% Syrah, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Petit Verdot. Layers of dark fruit, hints of chocolate, supple and elegant tannins on the palate. One of the Cape’s best-value fine reds.
VinousThe 2014 Anwilka was matured for 15 months in 50% new and 50% second-fill French oak 400-liter barrels. It has a luscious, pure black cherry and boysenberry jam bouquet, certainly more concentrated and opulent compared to the 2015, which is a surprise given the respective growing seasons. The poised, harmonious palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, rounded in the mouth with an almost citric thread of acidity, and delivers gentle grip on the classically styled finish. Enjoy this over the next 15 years.
