Morgan Double L Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017
|Region||California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands|
Aromas of crushed rosebuds and carnations mix with intense raspberry and a touch of eucalyptus on the nose of this single-vineyard expression that's made from organic grapes. It's fresh and lively on the palate, with a pristine raspberry flavors that's enhanced by touches of wild thyme and sage.
Brilliant red. A wildly complex bouquet evokes ripe red berries, cherry-cola, pungent cannabis, potpourri and oak spices. Sweet and expansive on the palate, offering intense, Chambord, cherry-vanilla, spicecake and succulent herb flavors that deepen slowly on the back half. Shows excellent clarity and spicy lift on a long, smooth finish that's framed by velvety, even tannins. There's 40% new French oak here.
Pure and focused, featuring well-structured red currant, raspberry and plum flavors. Crisp midpalate, with a velvety finish that is vibrant and filled slate and crushed stone notes. Drink now through 2024. 1,969 cases made.
The only 2017 I was able to taste was the 2017 Pinot Noir Double L Vineyard. This was a hot, more challenging vintage for the Santa Lucia Highlands, yet this does well, offering a bright cherry and strawberry-driven bouquet as well as some smoky, spicy aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied and charming on the palate, it's ideal for drinking over the coming 4-5 years.
