Hess Hess Collection Lion 19 Block Mountian Cuvee 2013 750ML 2013

SKU 20067

This Cuvée is crafted with mountain Malbec, Syrah and some of our favorite Cabernet Sauvignon blocks, resulting in a singular, distinctive expression of Mount Veeder. The Malbec brings notes of blueberry, black licorice and chocolate, while the Syrah and Cabernet feature red fruits alongside black currant and wild raspberry. A bit of oak spice, vanilla and clove wander in the background. The tannins here are soft and very approachable. The19 Block Mountain Cuvée is a wine built to enjoy right now, or explore it a bit further down the road as it gains even greater complexity. – Dave Guffy, Director of Winemaking

Wine AdvocateThe 2013 Proprietary Red 19 Block Mountain Cuvée is a blend of 61% Malbec, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Petit Verdot and Syrah, all from the estate on Mt. Veeder. This blend has worked well, exhibiting an opaque purple color, a beautiful nose of incense, camphor, blackberry, licorice and a touch of espresso. It is full-bodied and concentrated, but with supple tannins and a roundness and juiciness - even for a 2013. This should age nicely for at least 10 or more years.

Wine EnthusiastThis is an estate-grown blend of 61% Malbec, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot and 3% Syrah. It sizzles in a mix of huckleberry and blueberry, full-bodied and dusty in tannin. Its juicy and lifted by moderate acidity, with oaky accents of vanilla, nutmeg and clove

Wine SpectatorIntense and rugged, with a rustic property to the dense, extracted dark berry, crushed rock and cedary oak flavors. Hard to predict where this one is going as it is quite awkward. Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Syrah. Drink now through 2024. 8,680 cases made.
