Winemaker's Notes

Our low-vigour, stony, clay-rich soil, cool maritime mesoclimate, naturally tiny yields of well under 35 hl/ha and our philosophy of expressing our terroir in our wines – give rise to a certain tightness, tannin line and elevated length to balance the richness and generosity of our Pinot noir. Our Pinot noir is not overtly fruity, soft and “sweet” and it generally shows hints of that alluring savoury "primal" character along with a dark, spicy, complex primary fruit perfume.

Light herbaceous notes complement the cherry aromas of this delicate red. Fine tannins and moderate acidity provide a smooth mouthfeel. Well-balanced flavors of chocolate, cherry and herbs show on the bright palate and linger in the medium finish.

Fresh and elegant, with macerated cherry and raspberry fruit underscored by a subtle streak of loamy earth and spices. Well-knit and medium-bodied, with accents of rose petal, woodsy spices and citrus. Creamy finish. Drink now through 2026. 2,900 cases made, 600 cases imported.

The 2021 Pinot Noir includes 12% whole bunch, the rest de-stemmed but not crushed, matured for nine months in barrel using 27% new oak. It has quite a potent nose with peppermint-tinged red fruit, fine purity and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with a sappy entry, mainly brambly red fruit, hints of tobacco and a touch of piquancy on the slightly chewy finish. Fine, but give it a couple of years in bottle.
