Mer Soleil Silver Unoaked Chardonnay 2014Winemaker's Notes Flaxen in color and fresh from start to finish, the 2013 vintage opens up with aromas of fruit blossoms and Meyer lemon. Bright citrus shines through on the palate, with a crisp acidity and depth that belies the wine's unoaked character. On the finish: a lingering freshness that creates a perfect complement to salads, grilled seafood, tomato-based dishes and fresh oysters. Mer Soleil Silver is not a typical Chardonnay, and its bottle is equally distinct. We've used ceramic instead of glass, inspired by the concrete fermenters that create this wine's singular character. For us, that character stems from a true sense of place, grapes grown in ideal conditions and winemaking techniques that break from tradition to create something new.

Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia 2013 has an intense, bright colour. The nose is vibrant and fruity underscored by delicate toasty notes. On the palate, the smooth, silky texture contrasts with tannins of great freshness. d'Arenberg The Laughing Magpie Shiraz Viognier 2011McLaren Vale, Shiraz (90%) Viognier (10%) The Story Behind The Name The Kookaburra is a native Australian bird famous for its distinctive laughing call, Chester’s young daughters named them “Laughing Magpies”. The Magpie plumage is black with a stripe of white feathers, representing McLaren Vale’s first ever blend combining the (black) Shiraz and its white partner, Viognier. The Characteristics A dark, complex nose, highlighted with a twist of peppery spice and a subtle undertone of apricot and florals from the Viognier. The palate is similarly dominated by the dark and brooding Shiraz. Fennel, cured meat and beetroot like flavours combine initially but over time some of the more savoury and closed notes lift, revealing the fruit sweetness that lies beneath; plums, blackberry and dark cherry. The palate is rich and generous and the tannins have a certain silkiness to them. An exotic, mysterious wine that, in youth, will benefit enormously from a liberal dose of air through decanting.
