Fess Parker The Big Easy 2013
With The Big Easy we wanted to pay homage to one of our favorite cities, a culinary mecca and great supporters of our wines, New Orleans. Notes of blackberry, plum, smoked meat, acacia flower, vanilla, pepper and black cherry are found on the nose along with flavors of blueberry, blackberry, dark chocolate, black cherry, all spice & vanilla on the palate. Enjoy this meaty, well structured blend to a long lengthy finish with its dense chocolaty tannins.
Wine AdvocateAlways a big, bombastic beauty that's over flowing with fruit and texture, the 2013 Syrah The Big Easy offers up lots of plum, chocolate, coffee bean and black raspberry characteristics in a ripe, decadent, unctuously textured style. It's not complex, but man, it packs tons of fruit and is a pleasure-driven beauty. Drink it over the coming 3-5 years.
Wine EnthusiastThis is a dark and tarry wine, perhaps a tad early for release, showing condensed purple flowers, beef jerky, charcoal and plum peels on the nose. The palate is tart and chewy, with asphalt, sour black fruit and tobacco notes. Wait a year and this may sing much more strongly.
Wine SpectatorLean and tightly wound, with notes of dried berry, licorice and burnt herb. Syrah, Petite Sirah and Grenache. Drink now through 2021. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 3,530 cases made.
