Freemark Abbey Freemark Abbey Merlot 2012 750ML 2012
Freemark Abbey has crafted a distinct style of Merlot-that which is rounder, plummier, more forward fruit and lower tannin than many Napa Merlots, yet uniquely soft and well balanced.
The color is deep, dark ruby with reddish hues, quite opaque. The aroma is rich in dark cherry, plum and boysenberry, with aromatic cedar, juniper berry, vanilla and milk chocolate. The palate has bright cherry fruit and Santa Rosa plum, which lingers with great balance of acidity and fruit. The tannins are very soft and velvety.
Wine Advocate"A cross-Napa Valley blend, the 2012 Merlot is their largest cuvée (15,500 cases), and is composed of 85.2% Merlot blended with other Bordeaux varietals. Only 21% new oak is used, so the fruit component dominates. A dense plum/purple color is followed by notes of chocolate, berries, tobacco leaf, forest floor and mocha. This lush, fruit-driven, hedonistic, sensual Merlot can be drunk over the next 7-8 years." JS90
James Suckling "A round and simple merlot with plum, chocolate and olive character. Full to medium body, velvety tannins. Grows on you. Drink and enjoy."
Wine SpectatorAppealing, with zesty red currant, cedar and spiced herb flavors. Drink now through 2019. 15,500 cases made.
Wine EnthusiastLight in weight and texture, this wine was aged in both French and American oak. Smokiness surrounds the otherwise restrained offerings of plum, dark cherry and herb.
