Elderton

Following a good spring, there was plenty of subsoil moisture for the old Command vines to prosper in what would be a warm and dry summer. A cool February however delaying full ripening until late March. This has resulted in more blueberry and mulberry fruit characters than normal and very soft, pliable tannins adding structure and finesse. Leave it sleep for another 5-10 years.

Wine Spectator

Ripe and brooding, not a dense or heavy wine, but dark with black cherry, licorice, dark chocolate and wet earth flavors. This is complex and lingers easily on the open-textured finish. Best from 2012 through 2018. 850 cases imported.

Score: 94. —Harvey Steiman, December 31, 2010.

Wine Advocate

The 2006 Shiraz Command is a glass-coating opaque purple. Aromas of scorched earth, pencil lead, sandalwood, meat blood, game, and blueberry are followed by a dense, voluptuous, layered Shiraz with tons of flavor. Impeccably balanced and concealing enough structure for 5-7 years of cellaring, it will offer a drinking window extending from 2015 to 2026.

Score: 94. —Jay Miller, December 2009.
