Montepeloso

While the two luxury cuvées get much of the press attention, Eneo has quietly achieved a rabid following of its own. Aged in 2nd- and 3rd- year French barrique, it is a pure expression of Chiarelotto's vision, with a blend of Montepulciano, Sangiovese, Marselan, and Alicante.

Wine Advocate

The 2008 Eneo literally sparkles on the palate with vibrant red fruit, freshly cut flowers and spices. It shows remarkable tension and delineation all the way through to the resonant finish. This is a striking wine in every way. Floral notes reappear on the finish, along with iron, smoke and ferrous notes, all of which add considerable complexity. This is a dazzling effort from proprietor Fabio Chiarellotto. It is composed of 40% Montepulciano, 35% Sangiovese, 15% Marselan and 10% Alicante Bouschet. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022.

Score: 93. —Antonio Galloni, August 2011.

Wine Spectator

Deep with blackberry and black currant flavors, this red is intense and concentrated, yet bright acidity lends elegance. The wood is integrated, and this is balanced overall, with grip and fine length. Cabernet Sauvignon, Montepulciano, Sangiovese, Marselan and Alicante Bouschet. Best from 2012 through 2020.

Score: 92. —Bruce Sanderson, September 30, 2011.
