Chateau Lagrange

The magnificently fine and hot weather conditions of September and the beginning of October allowed the grapes to ripen in excellent conditions. In this vintage the natural potential alcohol content of the yield was exceptionally high. The color is deep and intense. The nose is ripe, long and noble. The structure in the palate is ample, classical and homogeneous with very good ripe and opulent tannins. The 2002 is a high quality long-keeping vintage.

Wine Spectator

Pretty aromas of blackberries and currants, with hints of lead pencil. Full-bodied, yet very balanced, with a solid core of fruit and ultrafine tannins. Really well-crafted wine. Lagrange often excels in less than easy vintages, like 2002. Excellent. Best after 2008.

Score: 92. —James Suckling, March 31, 2005.

International Wine Cellar

Bright ruby-red. Brisk aromas of currant, cedar and minerals. Firmly built, complex and aromatic, with lovely flavor definition and excellent palate coverage. Finishes with mouthcoating tannins and very good length. An excellent vintage for Lagrange. In comparison to this wine, the young 2004 seems more medicinal and austere, with a larger structure.

Score: 90. —Stephen Tanzer, May 2005.
